About Us

Domus Architecture was founded in 2025 by Peter Budnik and operates out of Mequon, WI. It is a firm that values classical design along with the building techniques that so naturally accompany this style of architecture. Our team maintains a strong focus on tradition, craft, as well as sustainability in every project that we touch. We hope to create spaces that can last generations, both in a timeless look, but also in their construction.

Domus Architecture has two areas of focus within the firm. Domus Dei, or "House of God", indicates the religious work that we do. Domus Hominis, or "House of Man", is the division that focuses on private residences.

Peter Budnik

Founder, Principal Architect

Peter Budnik grew up in the mid Hudson Valley region of New York. His first foray into the Midwest was to attend college at the University of Chicago where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies in 2006. He received his Master of Architecture from the University of Notre Dame in 2009. The next few years he worked in New York and Washington D.C. working in a variety of building types, notably monastic architecture. He returned to the Midwest in 2011, calling Milwaukee home with his growing family, practicing primarily residential architecture for the next 13 years. In 2025, Peter founded Domus Architecture to seek a more timeless way of building. He also joined three other Catholic architects in founding Sacro Sanctum which is devoted to serving larger-scale ecclesiastical projects. In addition to practicing architecture, Peter has lectured on architectural history and Church architecture. He also serves as the President and Chairman of the Wethersfield Institute, and he takes a keen interest in the formation of culture, its roots, continuity, and manifestation. Much of this he is putting into practice in the family home he is currently building.

Luke Palmer

Associate Architect

Luke Palmer was born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He tested an early interest in architecture by spending high school summers interning for a local architecture firm and working for a variety of building and restoration companies, ultimately receiving his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Notre Dame with a concentration in business a minor in Italian. He credits much of his passion for timeless beauty and his understanding of classical design principles to a year spent studying in Rome and sketching his way through Italy. While there, he also had the unique opportunity to be involved in preservation work at the Vatican Museums documenting the Cortile del Belvedere. Upon graduation, he moved to Milwaukee to practice residential architecture and put down roots with his wife, children, and German Shepherd. Luke joined Domus Architecture in 2025, excited both to craft timeless homes and to dive deeper into sacred architecture, a goal of his since marveling at the Gothic Revival churches of Northeast Indiana as a child and working on a sanctuary renovation during his summer interning years. In his spare time, he enjoys days spent with the family down by the water, trying his hand at woodworking, a friendly game of pool, painting, noodling on the guitar, and Russian literature.
